The Life and Times of a Skirted Vintage Thrift Shopper

We Ain’t So Proper…

Exhaustion is the word of the day…so this shall be short n sweet.

Today I felt a bit like an English schoolmarm…but in a good way! My outfit today seemed very proper and classic, which is great, but I didn’t want to overdo it… I added suede and black patent platform peeptoe bootie-ish shoes (ha) and made sure my hair wasn’t too coiffed. Although you can’t quite tell from the pics, it was perfectly mussed. lol!

Today I thought of my Great Grandmother, Nan. She would have loved this outfit… It seemed funny when I pulled my bag of Scotch Mints (Nan’s fave) out of my clutch and saw that like me, they were also wrapped in plaid. lol!

Nan was a really great lady and I can’t believe she’s been gone about 8 years. I wish I could share a photo of her with you, but the scanner isn’t working…so another day. Anyway, she was a wonderful person and I felt happy knowing I was wearing something she would have liked.

Til next time,

The Thin (Wo)Man

If anyone has ever watched ‘The Thin Man’ series, then you’ll no doubt be acquainted Myrna Loy’s fabulous wardrobe throughout the films. From gorgeous suits with huge fur collars, to slinky evening wear, she plays Nora Charles to perfection; sarcastically witty and simply dazzling.

My outfit today isn’t what I would really consider close to any of her outfits, but it is lightly inspired. A simple black dress with a velvet blazer.

As I said, it’s lightly inspired. There’s only one Nora Charles..and only one actress beautful enough to create her for us.

Animal Print Antics

Today my dear friend Genesis came over to spend the day with me. We decided to do a little photoshoot, but when we get together it’s hard to take anything seriously. Most of our pictures came out quite hilarious, with me creating poses such as ‘Pensive” and “Help Me” and “Aunt Beatrice”…

but we DID manage to grab a couple pretty good ones so I thought I would share them with you.

Props to Gen, who usually prefers shooting landscapes, etc, for her fab people skills! Ha!

props to Gen!

Feelin’ Blue

Ok, so today Spring Fever TOTALLY kicked my butt…i am DYING for warm weather. Alas, I have a few months to wait 😦

Today I grabbed ‘Old Faithful’ out of my closet…a full skirt, blazer and belt. I wanted to wear something I had sort of been saving for Spring, so I grabbed a blue silk blouse. Not exactly amazing, but gave me hope that someday soon, I will be reaching for such light-weight fabrics every day!

Blazer: Ralph Lauren, thrifted, $8.99 Blue Silk Blouse: Talbots via Marshalls, $5.99 Blue Skirt: wool/cashmere blend, thrifted, $5.99 Belt: thrifted, $3.99 Shoes: Steve Madden, thrifted, $15.99

I LOVE the skinny belt…it has a tortoise-esque shell buckle that is divine and the skirt is soooo soft. I am crazzzyyyy about cashmere, especially on chilly almost-spring days 🙂

Pockets! ❤

Excuse the awkward face, haha! This is my ‘please hurry up, I’m not a model’ specialty!

Now back to wishing Spring would arrive!

Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon…

Well, not really, but it’s a fun song… 😉

So today I went to church where I was asked to take photographs of the congregation and children for the new church website…so basically I spent the service wandering through the aisles and generally creeping people out. Oh well. At least I was wearing a great skirt that’s been sitting in my closet for over 6 months…begging to be worn.

Blue Vintage Anne Klein Skirt: thrifted, $5.99 Brown Flowered Blouse: vintage thrifted, $2.99 Blue Suede Shoes: Payless, $15.99

A combo of silk and wool, this skirt is just grand. And heck yes, brown and blue. Here’s a close-up of the skirt detail:

So after church was dinner out…which required a change. LOVE this feather printed skirt I grabbed at Value Village for $4.99!

All thrifted except for boots, gray t-shirt and gloves

feet don't touch the floor!

Afterwards it was back out to thrift! lol in case you couldn’t tell, this weekend was ALL about thrifting! I swaped the heeled boots for flats and changed into a cashmere sweater and faux leather jacket…need flat boots so I can move quickly to catch a deal! lol!

Thrifting is serious business! 😉

Well, time to hang with family and prepare for the trip home tomorrow…

Hiya, Boston

My new blog! yay!

Alrighty, let’s get right to business 🙂    My latest thrifting adventures have been a success! I’ve grabbed a ton of new items and will defs post them soon! For now, I thought I would share my thrifting outfit of choice 🙂

I heart cashmere

Cashmere sweater: $10 TJ Maxx, Wool skirt: vintage thrifted $5, Belt: vintage thrifted $3, Suede Boots: Target $30

The belt is amazingggg. It becomes wider in the back…or front? I wear it with the buckle in front or back, depending…if it’s worn in the back it looks cumberbund-esque.

So yes…needless to say, I had a grand old time and ravished the dress racks with my sexy vintage prowess! lol! As I said, photos of my finds will soon be added 🙂 And after all of my hard work, I deserved a treat!

Not to worry, I did not “dessert” ..ahem.. my diet or exercise regimen! lol!  Stay tuned, Lovelies!!! XOXO! -S.
